
Basketball player Jarred Shaw, a 34-year-old American was arrested by the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport on May 7, 2025, Police Narcotics Investigation Unit (Soetta).
He was arrested in a case of possession of narcotics such as marijuana in the form of Candy.
He was issued a lifetime ban by the Indonesian Basketball League and was fired by the Hawks.
He now faces significant narcotics accusations under Indonesian law, which could lead to the death penalty, life imprisonment, or up to 20 years in prison. The case shows persistent drug smuggling difficulties in Indonesia.
Officials have also stated that they are investigating the larger international narcotics network responsible for the cargo. Over 500 people are now on death row in Indonesia, the majority of them have been convicted of drug-related offences, including nearly 100 foreign nationals.
