Johannes Pietsch known as JJ, born in Vienna to an Austrian father and a Filipino mother, developed his love of music while growing up in Dubai. His winning song combines his classical music skills with his passion for pop, which he learned while growing up in the UAE.
Yuval Raphael of Israel came in second with “New Day Will Rise,” and Tommy Cash of Estonia came in third with “Espresso Macchiato.” After the public votes were added to the jury points for each country, Israel appeared to be on track to win this year’s contest, in spite of protests over the country’s participation in the contest.
